Breaking: Dunn loses; Casada wins
State Representative Bill Dunn lost his bid for leadership to the lesser candidate, Jason Mumpower.
Good news is Charles Sargent was defeated for the #2 position by Glen Casada.
Mumpower travelled the state lobbying for votes. Dunn was cutting trees for a living and being a good father.
The best man does not always win.
Update: Ken Whitehouse over at NashvillePost.com reports on the shakeup. Inside the report are these two items of interest:
Mumpower, a protégé of Senate Majority Leader Ron Ramsey (R-Blountville), will be the new Minority Leader and is expected to be a more aggressive adversary to Democrats in the legislature headed by Speaker Jimmy Nafieh (D-Tiptonville).
and this:
With the election of Mumpower and Casada, Hill-watchers expect a more aggressive minority in the next legislative session.
I have a question about those statements, with sincerely no disrespect to Ken Whitehouse. I like him and he does a super, super reporting job. But just where is this “Mumpower will be more agressive” than Dunn coming from ? I’m just curious who is putting that spin out there…for the record. I mean, I hope it’s true…but that has really not been the conventional wisdom at all.
