Media takes dig at Frist
OK. The AP has a story out on Frist. But instead, the Tennessean went with this story for their paper:
First there’s this for starters.
By CARRIE JOHNSON
The Washington Post— Ending an investigation that clouded the tenure of former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, federal prosecutors have decided not to file insider-trading charges against the Tennessee Republican for his sales of stock in a family-owned chain of hospitals.
The U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York and Securities and Exchange Commission staff last week sent Frist letters signaling that they had closed their joint, 18-month investigation. The letters essentially cleared him of wrongdoing.
OK. So far so good. But then what the heck is this thrown in at the end?
While the probe is over, it is unclear whether it will take a long-term toll.
Frist suffered for his role in the political furor over Terri Schiavo, a comatose Florida woman who died in 2005 after her feeding tube was removed, when he gave a medical opinion, based on videotapes of her, that she had not suffered irreversible brain damage.
What the heck is that about!?! I’m not a huge Bill Frist fan as far as Republicans go. I’ve been honest about that on my site. Nothing personal…I just prefer stronger leadership. But what the heck is the Terri Schiavo stuff doing in this story? Hey Carrie Johnson, here’s a memo for you: a lot of people respected Dr. Frist’s medical opinion. Unlike many of you media ghouls who get all hot over the death of a porpoise or deer, some people were actually in favor of letting the human live.
Occasions like this show you how biased many journalists are. Of all the bills, controversies over filibuster and judicial nominations, the war, etc.–this reporter focuses in on her membership in the culture of death. They’ll throw in some stuff like that and then leave out stuff on Senators like Ted Kennedy. How about every article on Kennedy have the following closer: Senator Kennedy continues to live under a cloud of controversy in the drowning of his party companion, Mary Jo Kopechne.
