(Mock interview): “Governor, Governor…one last question. What about the big budget surplus? Will Tennesseans see an elimination of the sales tax on groceries?” Bredesen: “Let them pay tax on cake! I have friends to reward!”

Staff WriterTop Tennessee officials’ paychecks now outstrip those of their peers in neighboring state governments by as much as $62,000 a year, according to data from a nonprofit study group.
Gov. Phil Bredesen pushed the raises — some as great as 63 percent — for his captains as a way to make the positions more competitive with private and public sector salaries, administration spokeswoman Lola Potter said Friday.
Interesting polling going on too over at the Tennessean. Bredesen’s move isn’t popular with the folks who actually foot the bills for his generosity.

The governor needs to forget the future needs as healthcare costs and operational expenses rise…give the citizens the money back and forget the future!
