Governor Ford?

Nashville City Paper’s Clint Brewer and John Rodgers talk about Jr. and a possible run for Governor:

A close advisor to former Congressman Harold Ford Jr. met with prominent Tennessee Democratic Party officials recently to talk about Ford’s interest in running for governor in 2010.

and this:

Powell couldn’t be reached for comment. But Tom Lee, a Nashville attorney who advised Ford during the Senate campaign, sat in on one of the meetings and said Ford is “deeply interested in public service.”

“And we felt it was important to let people know that he is seriously looking at running for governor in 2010,” Lee said.

“A lot of people have been asking him what his thoughts were, and Harold has always been straightforward with people about that, and so he wanted to be straightforward about this,” Lee said.

Ford is a formidable candidate. He is likable. His rhetoric has moved centrist. And if Bill Frist or Zach Wamp is our nominee, Ford could certainly pull it off.

Update: apologies to the City Paper for not having the link to their story up earlier today. Either it didn’t work, or I forgot it! It’s now good to go!

I would much rather see him run for Mayor of Memphis. If he could turn that city around then anything is possible. It would prove that he has executive abilities and is more then a pretty face and slick talk.

I tend to disagree on if he runs against Frist he could win. Frist would (I think) spank him. Some of the others (Marsha Blackburn, Wamp and others) may be more of a fight just because of the money side of it.

Perhaps you’re right, Rep.–but only because the money men who float back and forth between the GOP and Dems might rather have Frist than Ford Jr. Jr.’s too capable of thinking on his own, and that might scare those folks who don’t really care much for big ideas.

If Mr. Ford is so “deeply interested in public service” I suggest that he is most needed in Memphis, Tennessee as Mayor. That city is in dire need of Mr. Ford’s help and if public service is his goal, he could do no better than in his own home town.

Actually, I could go for Ford over Frist. I had high hopes for frist, but somewhere along the way, the surgeon had his spine forcibly removed… Although I’d go for Blackburn over Ford (and most, for that matter! She’s excellent!!).

Money from Hsu gives him a nice start.

Harold Ford should already be the US Senator from Tennessee. That racist Bob Corker stole that election with his misogynist smear ads. Anyway, Harold Ford Jr is the next Governor of Tennessee.
