GOP Uprising! Show Your Support!
Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi adjourned Congress for a 5 week recess. Republicans unanimously voted against adjournment. They are demanding a debate on drilling. They realize the pressure that Americans are under—that’s American families, American business, American industry.
So on Friday, Michelle Malkin as well as the Politico began following a story on GOP leadership refusing to leave. The uprising continues.
As events were transpiring, we had a great on-air discussion with Congressman David Davis(R) on Friday. Congressman Davis delivered a speech that you can see linked at Michelle Malkin. Congressman Davis was adamant that the Democrats do not understand how important this issue is to citizens. He will be returning tomorrow to join fellow GOP colleagues. Keep up the good work, Congressman!!
Congressman Marsha Blackburn was there yesterday. And Minority Leader John Boehner is giving live blogging updates at his site. Please visit his blog and leave comments of your support and encourage them to stay strong!!

And this morning, in a press release from Congressman Tancredo’s office, Tancredo calls on President Bush to act:
President Bush should call a special session in the House in order to solve this problem,” Tancredo said. “It is important for the American people to know who is responsible for the energy crisis we are all facing; the Democrats.”
House Democrats, under Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), took a five week vacation without providing a solution to high gas prices plaguing every American.
Here’s Congressman Blackburn as quoted on Congressman Boehner’s blog:
“What did the Democrats do while the Pelosi Premium went up? They declared National Passport Month, but wouldn’t have a vote on energy. In May we voted on ‘National Train Day’ but not energy! [Holds a gas can] This is a gas can. An empty gas can, as empty as the Democratic Party’s ideas on energy, on filling this can! They don’t know how to fill it. Their only idea is $5 gas. [Holds up a new helical light bulb] The Democrat energy plan is to outlaw incandescent light bulbs, but not vote on a comprehensive energy policy!”
Here’s the original story from the Politico as events kicked-off:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democrats adjourned the House, turned off the lights and killed the microphones, but Republicans are still on the floor talking gas prices.
Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and other GOP leaders opposed the motion to adjourn the House, arguing that Pelosi’s refusal to schedule a vote allowing offshore drilling is hurting the American economy. They have refused to leave the floor after the adjournment motion passed at 11:23 a.m., and they are busy bashing Pelosi and her fellow Democrats for leaving town for the August recess.

I fear that this may be too little and too late. But I praise their efforts.

The Republicans will all leave town shortly because they have to canpaign, and if any bunch ever needed to, they do. They should be on their hands and knees begging the voters for one more chance.

Semi, break out your calendar. You might want to write this down. You and I might agree on this one. But I wonder how long it will go on for a different reason. Are they trying to make hay while this “sun” shines? How long can it go on? The media is bored with it already and is giving them less coverage than they are giving McCain. And the important issue here is: without the support and efforts of the President on the United States calling a Special Session, they are little more than words. Bush says that he probably won’t call a Special Session because it won’t help. I’m so glad that he, the Dem leadership, and to an extent, both presidential candidates are willing to throw in the towel on our behalf. As a citizen and a taxpayer and a first responder in my job, would those same people understand if I went home in the middle of THEIR crisis just because it was my break time? Or would they hope and expect me to stay on their chest doing CPR all the way to the hospital?
