The Gang of 10: Corker Providing Lifeboat to Another Dem in Trouble
So Senator Corker tells Instapundit that it’s a bunch of “C-R-A-P” that Obama has grabbed onto the Gang of 10 Plan as a lifeline.
Well, I’ve provided two sources below that show Obama clearly using the Gang’s Plan as a life preserver.
In the Gang of 10 Part II from Kimberly Strassel’s column in the WSJ, Ms. Strassel notes that another Democrat is hanging on by his fingernails to the plan, Democrat Congressman Mark Udall who is locked in a fight with GOP Senate Candidate Bob Schaffer for the seat of retiring Republican Senator Wayne Allard.
From Strassel:
Republican Energy Fumble – II
August 15, 2008; Page A13Ask GOP Senate candidate Bob Schaffer what he thinks of the recent “Gang of 10″ Senate energy compromise, and his answer is short and not sweet: “I’d call it 40% tax increase, 10% energy and 50% snake oil.”
The Coloradan might well be irked. Republicans like Mr. Schaffer had successfully turned this summer’s political debate into a fight over domestic energy exploration, putting antidrilling Democrats on defense. Or at least that was the scene until the “Gang” — five Republicans and five Democrats — announced a lackluster “drilling” deal that may provide the left the cover it needs to defuse the energy issue. If the GOP half of the Gang wants to know what effect its proposal may have on the cause for more drilling, or for GOP prospects this fall, they might look to Colorado. Especially given that Mr. Schaffer is vying to replace retiring Republican Sen. Wayne Allard, a seat that could block a filibuster-proof Democratic Senate.
and thanks to Senator Corker and his fellow gangsta colleagues, here’s Strassel on Udall:
Any guesses as to Mr. Udall’s other action this week? That’s right. He embraced the Gang of 10’s “compromise.” It wasn’t a huge sacrifice, since the proposal mostly limits drilling to a few coastal states, while spending $84 billion in subsidies primarily for the sort of “green” energy Mr. Udall favors. Meantime, he’s betting the “bipartisan” nature of that bill will provide him political protection against Mr. Schaffer’s attacks, while heading off more aggressive GOP drilling proposals in Congress this September.
And Statewide Radio Titan Steve Gill doesn’t mince any words on Corker’s Plan:
Senator Bob Corker (RINO-TN) has teamed up with some fellow Republicans and Democrats to propose legislation to authorize drilling for oil…as long as we drill where there is no significant amount of oil. And he is happy to defend his plan as long as he can talk to people who really don’t know anything about his plan. I guess there is some consistency there. Senator Corker has declined to defend his plan on the Steve Gill Show, since we have actually read the plan and can pinpoint the ridiculous assertions he has made in support of it.

Of course this “Gang” plan is a lifeline for B-HO. Why else would the Dems be going for it? If the Democrat Party was interested in a stronger economy, they would have pushed for drilling before now. If the Dems were interested in energy independence, they would have voted for domestic production a long time ago. If the Dems were interested in alternative energy sources, they would allow different coal technologies, nuclear or something other than fantasy technologies that they think will appear because they believe hard enough. In one of the versions of the child’s story of Peter Pan, Tinkerbelle is brought back because everyone believed and clapped their hands. I’m here to tell you that the same is NOT going to work for our energy no matter how much the Dems want to believe.
If the Dems were interested in energy, the Fascist Pelosi would allow debate.
Now why does Corker suddenly believe that this ISN’T a lifeline for B-HO?

Easy, Big B. It’s very frustrating, I know. But what is even more disgusting is that a News Sentinel editorial allows Corker to say that this plan is “what Tennesseans want.”
A good editorial board would have asked, “how do you know that, Senator?”
But Corker campaigns and sucks up to editors while he kicks sand in the face of taxpayers.
Do you remember the mansion that Harold Ford Jr. highlighted in an ad against Corker? Do you remember how big it was?
I’m not a class envy kind of person. Build whatever the heck you want, but please, spare me the holy preaching about energy when you and the wife are living far, far, far beyond the space you actually need to get by.
I doubt Mr. and Mrs. Bob are just leaving the windows open to cool the place.

I think it goes back to what John Edwards said in his intgerview on ABC, Corker and the rest, are you reading this? “self-focus, an egotism, a narcissism that leads you to believe that you can do whatever you want” is a EXACTLY the trap that Bob and his ilk are falling into. The saddest part is that WE, THE PEOPLE, are ;the ones that are having to foot the bill and put up with the consequences.
The Gang of 10 probably has an unofficial motto: ELITISTS OF THE U.S. UNITE!!! Al with his boat, house etc. probably has a seat on the board. Pelosi, after the closing of debate, is obviously the Sgt at Arms. And obviously she doesn’t want the rest of us “unclean masses” to enter into the debate.
Is Senator Corker from Tennessee taking his marching orders from Representative Pelosi from California? He needs to analyze how many values the voting Tennesseeans have in common with the nut cases of San Fran.
