Give ‘Em Heck, Fred!

Fred Thompson was great last night.  He’s put some weight back on, he looked great, he looked rested, he sounded great, and his speech was a clear contrast from the Democrat Convention I watched last week.

Don’t the national Dems get it?  There are many people out there who love this country.  But the message I keep hearing from the national Dems is that we’re a nation in need of a revolution and we need a Barack to lead us into the promised land.

The more centrist DLC (Democrat Leadership Council) has been kicked to the curb.  The Kos and MoveOn Crowd is fully behind the wheel of the Democrat engine.  And as they go full frontal, personal assault on Sarah Palin, the very perfect pick for the veep slot, they’re committing what may be a fatal error in this very tight Presidential race.

She is becoming the whipping girl for everything the coffee house elites don’t appreciate, understand or like about flyover America: God, country, rugged individualism, family, tenacity.  As Barack gives the citizen of the world speech, McCain and Palin show their love of country.  And every hit at the accomplished Palin, whether it be the size of the town she served as Mayor, her family, or her state, may serve to generate some snickers or laughter in the Professors Lounge at UC Berkeley, but it will burn the average working guy or gal who’s picking up their dose of news between the country music songs.  They will be offended.  They are being offended.

And while Americans realize there is always room for improvement, a clear majority still love this country. A clear majority still believe in and appreciate American exceptionalism.  And attacking Sarah Palin isn’t going to change that.

No, every hit on Palin will translate to hundreds of McCain stickers getting slapped on cars for the very first time this election season.

It’s the same spirit alive in the movie Braveheart.  And that spirit is a love of country…a love of freedom. As Wallace says at one point in the film: “There’s a difference between us. You think the people of this country exist to provide you with position. I think your position exists to provide those people with freedom. And I go to make sure that they have it.”   Perhaps it is telling that the screenplay for Braveheart was written by a Jackson, Tennessee native, Randall Wallace.

Americans want leaders who will ensure our freedom, not lord over us.

The heart and soul of the average American understands global commerce, but he also believes we’re more than just a cog in an international machine.

For Obama, the risks are building that this race is shaking out into just such a contrast.

Here’s Fred with his great speech on Sarah Palin and John McCain:

Nice try, Terry.

Fred’s lackluster performance reminded why he was soundly rejected by GOP voters following a bizarre, underwhelming campaign, much to the shock and surprise of Tennessee Republicans.

And although Republicans want the perception that Palin is under attack to be widely accepted, she really isn’t.

Still, McCain’s campaign has parachuted a team of political operatives into Anchorage to investigate Palin and determine if there are any other shoes to drop.

Obama is the one calling on his supporters not to focus on the pregnancy of Palin’s daughter, saying “kids are off limits”.

The GOP is trying to rally its base with the mantra that “Palin is under attack from the left” when in reality, she’s not under attack. The media has simply reported the facts: her teenaged daughter is unmarried and pregnant, she changed her position on the Bridge to Nowhere and she’s being sued for terminating a state commissioner who refused to fire her ex-brother in law.

If that’s what Republicans consider attack politics, what would they call some of the shenanigans in their guru Karl Rove’s past?

I agree that the average American understands global commerce. Like my cousin in Indiana who made padlocks for 20 years, for example. He now understands that slave labor in China is now making the locks while he delivers refrigerators at the age of 62.

What exactly is American exceptionalism?

Semi, that you ask what is American exceptionalism is only evidence of the point I made regarding contrast between the two campaigns.

And “Thomas”–I don’t know what to say. You’re adorable.

Perhaps you could write up a piece for Snopes or any of the other urban legend sites. Palin is not being attacked?

Before I even opened my doors for business this morning I had one delivery guy and one sales rep who both mentioned her and what you claim is the mythical attack . Our delivery guy has never even mentioned politics, yet he was sympathetic to the family assault she’s under.

I credit Barack for making a statement, but let’s face it, the troops haven’t gotten the message. What does that say about Barack? As Fred says, it says there’s panic in the ranks.

You mean not attacking like this?

Why not search for your own?

I’d say 56k links in 72 hours isn’t a bad start.

However, I agree with Chuck Baldwin:

If she was the legit whistleblower reformer, she will become a complete sellout to stay in with McAmnesty.

If Palin is not being attacked, someone needs to tell Geraldine Ferraro. Just read an article where she is defending Palin from the attacks.

How scandalous, the next thing that the left will do is try to link Palin with the admitted terrorist Ayers. No wait, the media didn’t report the last candidate linked to Ayers why would they here. Palin has suffered more attacks than the Dems main candidate. Lets keep it on qualifications and not about children, DNA and whether she should be baking cookies.
