Out of the Ballpark!

Rudy!  Sarah Palin!  Great speeches last night.  Rudy was having a lot of fun.  It was like a charity boxing match.  He was throwing punches left and right and laughing all the while.

But we saw last night why the Dem leaders fear Palin.  She’s genuine.  She’s fun.  She’s serious.  She’s tough, but not shrill.  And she’s concerned about voters, Americans…not the pundits or beltway insiders.

And because my day starts so very early each day, there’s nothing on TV that will ever keep me up past 11:00 on a work night, except to watch Sarah Palin.  And I’m glad I did.

And where is Hillary Clinton while Palin is under punditry/journalistic siege?  I don’t know.  But she has a real opportunity here to come out and be interviewed and defend her Democrats, but say enough is enough already.  She could score mega points.

What else does Sarah Palin say to conservatives who’ve been concerned about a McCain presidency?  It says maybe he really does intend to put conservatives like Alito and Roberts on the bench.  It’s important.  And while Palin is no guarantee that he’ll do just that, she’s a strong marker that he will.

And Dem strategist Susan Estrich sees what’s going on with Palin.  And she warns of a likely backlash:

Estrich came aboard at about 12:15 a.m., and van Susteren started by asking: “Is [Palin] getting an unfair grilling or is this part of the vetting process by the media?” The former Democratic Party strategist answered: “I’ve never seen anything this bad in my life, and, Greta, I was with Geraldine Ferraro in ‘84 – and this is worse. … I don’t agree with Sarah Palin on the issues. I mean, she and I are very far apart, but I have never seen from some of my friends such vicious and mean-spirited attacks on her most personal choices, which is what they are. We ask that our choices be respected. Hers should be respected. And this questioning of whether she should as a mother of five be running for Vice President, I don’t recall anybody saying that Arnold Schwarzenegger shouldn’t run for governor of California because he’s got four kids. I think this is just really unfair, really sexist, and very likely to provoke a backlash.”

And my favorite shot of the entire evening:

Piper licking her hand to smooth down baby Trig’s hair.  Maybe it’s the mom in me.  I melted.

“It says maybe he really does intend to put conservatives like Alito and Roberts on the bench.”

I would agree except for the reports that he really wanted Lieberman as his VP but it wasn’t politically feasible.

Having said that, I loved the speech. However, I would have liked to at least hear some lip service about the Constitution and limited government.

I still don’t know if McCain can be trusted. However, I do know that Obama can be trusted . . . trusted to give us even bigger government.

I think what we might have seen last night is a return to the right of the GOP. The Republicans have been drifting to the left over the years and were in danger of running into opposing traffic and dying in a terrible crash.

I am looking at it this way: we saw the part of the ticket that just might put McCain in the White House. We saw someone that will hopefully STAY on the national scene. I know it is early and I dare not whisper it for fear it will disappear but I think we could see her again in 2012. Win or lose with McCain, she will be a very viable candidate for that run. She will have more experience and probably not a lot of new trash for the MSM to run out and play with. If John loses this election (and if they lose it will be because of him) she will go back and run her state and continue to build that resume. Bring her back out in 2012 and partner up with another Gov that will have 6 years under his belt from Louisiana and you have a GREAT ticket for conservatives to vote for even in the GOP doesn’t think it is centrist enough. And that is a ticket that could easily stand up to anything that Hillary et. al. could put forth. Two Washington outsiders against her and any other career politician she would run with is a no brainer!!

Sarah Palin did a great job and I wish that we could flip that ticket and put her in the White House. Congratulations to her and her family. PALIN 2012!!!

Sorry, sometimes my vision out does my eye sight! lol

Semi-You had a comment on here that you didn’t like her speech. I was deleting some x rated spam that came through and I accidentally deleted yours.

Repost if you like because I don’t know how to recover your comment.

I think you said: “she didn’t hit it out of the ballbark, but into the cheap seats.”

Sorry about it.

“she didn’t hit it out of the ballbark, but into the cheap seats.”

Except for that the “cheap seats” are generally those found the furthest from home plate. And, in some parks, it’s easier to hit the ball out of the park (San Francisco, Boston) than it is to hit them into the sections with the cheapest seats.

Therefore, the original analogy still works. Have a good weekend folks!!! It’s Friday!!!

Ty: Love ya’ man!

Ty, you got it right. She was a super hit at a convention. I think it remains to be seen whether, after the new wears off, she has widespread national appeal.

I await the debate with Biden. He may actually have to help her through it.

If McCain were to be incapacitated or die before the election, do you think she would move to the top of the ticket?

I think regardless of the outcome of this election, she will be an odds on favorite to be the Republican nominee in 2012.

May I consider that an answer?

I think that the “new” is a valid issue. I think that she will have some lasting power. As far as assuming the top of the ticket if McCain drops off, I think she would, could and should rise to the top. Adn I’m not to sure that Biden’s people even want him up against her on natinoal TV. It could be interesting.

Why didn’t they run her in the primaries?

“Why didn’t they run her in the primaries?”

Umm…”they run her”? I think Semi just gave us an insight into Democratic puppetry. Thanks for the slip, Freud, but I believe running for the presidential nomination is a personal choice, unless of course, your on the Moveon.org ticket where the sheople are told who they are gonna like.

As I walk around our nations capitol this week, I am reminded of what made this country the best on earth so far. I haven’t seen one monument to higher taxes or politicians that were nothing more that sugar coated feces. I see how America tries to remember those that sacrificed and accomplished goals for this nation. I contrast men and women who risked life, family, money and prison to some of the weasels in office who won’t grant an interview because someone might make them look bad by asking a question.

Where am I going with this? I am hoping that the GOP wakes up and sees not only that Palin is revitalizing the ticket, but WHY she has had that impact. People can’t live on hate and self loathing and I dearly hope that we wake up and try to return to the values that we honor in these monuments. I think that many want to, let’s see how big a difference Palin can make.

Oh, BCB, you missed all of those gigantic, bureaucratic buildings everywhere. I was just up there in March and couldn’t get over just how many there are. It’s like government gone hog wild.

I do have a question for you guys: aren’t you the least troubled by Sarah Palin’s own Troopergate? If the charges are true, and they are just charges at this point, she fired the head of the Alaskan whatever they call it instead of Troopers for refusing to fire her former brother in law while he was going through a divorce with Palin’s sister.

Again, those are only charges at this point and she hasn’t been convicted of anything, but neither has Bredesen.

I think it’s funny that the Dems are playing the “experience” card with Palin. Really funny. They are running a PRESIDENT with less experience.

As to McCain picking someone outside the establishment that DIDN’T run in the primaries — I thought the libs were begging at the feet of “change.”

As to Troopergate. Really weak. I’ve read a bunch on it and, IMO, it’s a real stretch to think that anything illegal went on. IMO, a worst-case scenario would be that she did something kind of shady but not illegal. In that case, I would give her a pass considering what I have read about her ex-brother in-law. (Tasering of child, threats to family.) Hell, if what he said and did was true, I’d be pissed if she didn’t try to do everything in her power to knock the guy.

As to the VP debate. It’s going to be interesting. IMO, it’s almost a win-win proposition. If she wins – fine. However, there is something to be said of Biden if he comes across too strong. I don’t agree with this perception but, remember what happened with Lazio and Hillary Clinton. If memory serves, he came across as a bully in the debate and, thus, lost his lead in the polls when the Yankees in New York felt sorry for the carpetbagger.

My last point about the debates is that I see McCain kicking all sorts of stuff when he goes against Obama. There are no teleprompters in a debate. Plus, I think McCain genuinely knows and feels exactly the same to what he says. In other words, I don’t think his responses have to be calculated. Thus, he can reply quickly, succinctly and with confidence. I feel like Obama has to calculate almost every response because what he believes and says are sometimes different. Don’t hold me to this one… It’s just an opinion and I could be wrong.

Nevertheless, McCain is currently up 10% in likely voters so the MSM is going to have to work overtime to influence this election.

I think its hilarious that ANYONE in TN that completely let our OWN trooper scandal go without comment would call into play anything from Alaska. Where were you when a certain Lt was up to no good in our state? Where were you when THP refused to hand over the investigation but instead handle it “in house”? Too partisan for you?

I don’t believe I have heard much about B_Ho voting to send cash to his wifes employer after she gets a nice fat raise? Conflict? Nope, just business as usual from the candidate of change.

Palin is your lightening rod only because she is head and shoulders above the entire Dem ticket.

I think that what the Dems are doing is like a summer evening storm: maybe a flash or two and some noise but nothing ever comes of substance.

Casey, I agree with you on those huge buildings that administrators built as monuments to themselves. But they don’t want to celebrate or acknowledge sacrifice or progress they are there to establish just how powerful we have allowed our government to become. The fact that so many of these gov’t buildings have big metal doors and are no longer accessible by the public shows how involved they want the public to be. I am not naive and understand about security, but there are buildings that don’t even allow people like me to get off the sidewalk and photography is possible only through fences.

What I was talking about are the things that people WANT to see. The Tomb of the Unknowns. Arlington Cemetery. Monuments to great American Presidents, servicemen and patriots. Those are the things that people go to see and what they tell their children about.

It’s when these huge buildings celebrating a bloated bureaucracy and their inhabitants forget how they got there and who they are there to serve that it gets so dang sad. I looked out over Arlington cemetery last night and wondered if these men and women died so that an elected official can raise taxes, knowing that the gov’t revenue would go down, solely for “economic justice” and income redistribution. Is that the brand of freedom they fought and died for? Did they die for earmarks? Did they die so that my children can not expect to inherit my accumulated wealth that I worked for my whole life when I die?

I think that maybe these damn politicians should get out of their big black Suburbans and their minions should get off the Metro and look around their city at these monuments. These people lived and worked for all of us to be secure in our possessions. They strove to make sure that we were free to pursue life, liberty and happiness. I doubt that they were thinking of income redistribution but rather trying to provide opportunity for those less fortunate.

Casey, I know that we come at various issues form different points of view, but I think we see common ground also. God, Bless the USA.

I must be in a bizzaro world. Link from Drudge to Newsweek in DEFENSE of Palin and countering rumors and accusations.
Even Hillary is staying clear.
McCain up 12% w/ independents and 10% overall in Gallup.
Obama has his panties in a wad.
Olberman-less and Matthews demoted.

Now, this may not last which is why this is about the only place you’ll see me excited. (The worst that can happen is Semi calling me out.) I’m keeping quiet around my friends and liberal family. But, it is pretty fun to see some of the things going on right now.

Yes, indeed, Ty. Yes, indeed.

I would have some concern over Troopergate if it were not for one thing, no one involved is upset. The fired commissioner says he was never asked to fire Palin’s BIL and isn’t slinging the accusations. The ex-BIL says he regrets the bad blood, admits his mistakes and says he got the punishment he deserved.

BCB,

I’m with you. The actual monuments are inspiring. It was just a shocking reminder of how gigantic our government has become to see all those office buildings.

Also, I’m not anti-Palin and don’t know much about the Troopergate thing. I personally would prefer to hear about their ideas on both sides of the aisle. I’ve voted Republican more times in my life for president than Dem, but, frankly, I’m having a hard time looking past George. I’m fighting mad about the last eight years of what I see as busted leadership and lost potential. That isn’t ideological, just my feelings.

Then again, I’m far from sold on Obama, so McCain may still win my vote.

Oh, and BCB, I enjoy your posts, even the ones I don’t agree with. You write very well and crack me up on a regular basis. Plus, you are clearly a person of conviction which is the basis of good citizenship.

Tennessee is solid for McCain. Direct your money and time where it will make a difference:

Got relatives in Ohio? Call them. Write a check to the Ohio GOP.

Spend your time where it can make a difference.

Number9, I’m not surprised. Eventually, though, Tennesseeans will run out of ammunition and feet.
