David Kernell Hires High-Powered Attorney
The University of Tennessee College student who finds himself the subject of investigation regarding the invasion of Governor Palin’s email account, now has an attorney. Yesterday afternoon, WBIR Channel 10 reported that Wade V. Davies will be representing Kernell as the investigation proceeds.
Mr. Davies is a partner at the prestigious law firm of Ritchie, Dillard and Davies. Like many attorneys here in Tennessee, founding partner Robert (Bob) Ritchie was a prominent Democrat. Robert Ritchie was well-known throughout the state. He passed away in 2006.
His son Wayne Ritchie maintains his position at the firm and as many may know, was a former State Legislator for awhile. I’ve appeared with Wayne before on the WBIR roundtable with Wayne representing the left position and I the right.
My point in filling you in on the law firm that was chosen is to show that his attorney is not a bargain basement, ambulance-chasing hack. There’s no blue-light special, discount legal service going on here. Serious times call for serious representation.
From the law firm of Mr. Davies, here’s a brief on his area of expertise:
Mr. Davies, who has been with the firm since his first year at the University of Tennessee Law School, graduated first in his law school class in 1993. He became a partner in January 1999. Today he serves as the firm’s managing partner.
Mr. Davies earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Pomona College in Claremont, California.
Mr. Davies concentrates his criminal defense practice on representing individuals at both the trial and appellate levels. His practice ranges from state court cases to the most complex federal matters. His civil practice includes an emphasis on representing individuals in litigation against the state and federal government and agencies.
Mr. Davies has also written a piece entitled Computer Forensics– How to Obtain and Analyze Electronic Evidence that you can view here.
Without a doubt, this article and this area of expertise is why Mr. Davies was chosen to represent David.
Wade V. Davies, Attorney for David Kernell
From USA Today:
“The Kernell family wants to do the right thing, and they want what is best for their son,” said attorney Wade V. Davies of Knoxville. “We are confident that the truth will emerge as we go through the process. David is a decent and intelligent young man, and I look forward to assisting him during this difficult period.”

Who’s paying for this attorney? Soon we’ll find out the Obama commies are paying, but not from the msm.

Terry, if your kid was facing this kind of situation, would you opt for a blue-light special lawyer?
By SemiPundit on 09.23.08 11:48 am
Semi–You’re usually off point. The POINT is that this is being played off as a prank, yet look who they brought in.
It’s a serious situation, is it not?
By Terry on 09.23.08 11:52 am
Terry, this kind of thing is certainly not a prank; it is serious business. That is, of course, unless you are George Bush and you want to check on your political opponents. In such a circumstance, this guy needs more than a night court lawyer.
By SemiPundit on 09.23.08 1:01 pm
p.s.- The first time I heard about it, I reflexively yelled out to my wife, “Karl Rove!”.
By SemiPundit on 09.23.08 1:02 pm
… and then your wife replied, “what is your obsession with Karl Rove and why do you blame everything on Bush?”
By Ty on 09.23.08 1:39 pm
I am curious how long after he is gone will they STILL blame Bush for hurricanes, people who are too stupid to evacuate in front of his hurricane, social security insolvency, Dodd, Obama and the others for taking Fannie and Freddie money, no drilling for our own oil, etc. They have blamed him for everything but the enslavement of the Jews in Egypt.
Semi, the MSM is playing this off as a prank and refuse to recognize that it IS serious. If they do, they have to admit that they aren’t covering thing equally and without bias.
By BCB on 09.23.08 7:28 pm
That’s the problem. Maybe this leads to something; maybe it does not. However, the MSM has COMPLETELY ignored the story while looking under Alaskan rocks for anything to discredit Palin.
There are about 15 things I can think of off the top of my head that the MSM has completely ignored in its coverage of Obama; however, one unsubstantiated and unproven rumor that McCain had an affair with an advisor hits the NY Times front page.

I was just wondering if anyone knows what charges could be pressed for this act?
By Amy on 09.24.08 8:31 am
What you are trying to do, of course, is to tie this incident around the neck of the Obama campaign. It’s likely that there is nothing much to it or the feds would have it all wrapped up by now. Remember, you are talking about agencies that we are told can react quickly and effectively to enemies who would hack into our national defense infrastructure.
Two points: This young man must be pretty dense if he does something like this and then publicly brags about it. The likelihood of getting caught is quite high. And second, what kind of governor or other public official would use an email facility for official messages that uses password reminders like “what is your dog’s name”, or “what is your mother’s maiden name”? How do you folks feel about Palin’s use of Yahoo for that purpose?
Don’t forget that Karl Rove made his bones early in his life of crime misrepresenting himself and his actions as that of the opposition doing outrageous acts.
Note to Sharon: You need a better class of attackers than the weenies at SMB. They should be blogging from Anbar instead of hanging out at the mall and then skateboarding home to play with their Wii.

semi–
Can you please answer me something?
WHO is trying to “tie this around the neck of the Obama campaign?” Where has Terry done this? Please point out to me where Michelle Malkin or even the 6MB guys have tried alleged or hinted, implied or inferred that this is one of Axelrod’s dirty tricks?
Now, I do see you–and a lot of other people–trying to turn this into an opportunity to insinuate that Sarah Palin is maybe not so bright. Blame the victim much, Semi?
Also, as regards David Kernell being “dense”: Are you trying to say that he must not have done it, since doing what he’s under investigation for would be just excessively stupid?
Have you met many 20-year-old UT students, Semi?
I’m not a computer expert at all. But the owner of the service that masks people’s IP address led the feds to David Kernell’s apartment. Are you saying that his roomates did this? Or a burglar broke in and sat down to make extra mischief at young David’s computer?
Or are you saying that there was a REAL criminal mastermind at work, who not only used the IP masker, but also was able to use a second disguise under that? That second disguise being the IP address of one innocent, chess-playing Seth Rogen lookalike, whose worst crime is his haircut?
Like I said, I’m no computer expert, so I can’t say what’s impossible. But is it likely? Really now? If that scenario is the LEAST bit plausible, I’m going to have to reconsider the evidence against O.J.
And, before you get huffy, NONE of this has anything to do with David Axelrod, and I’m not saying it does. Nor does it have anything to do with Mike Kernell. I would just like to know–from you or from Sharon Cobb or anyone else–who the he** ever said it did?
