Power for Power’s Sake vs. Ideology: GOP Deathmatch
Power for power’s sake vs. ideology, that’s the battle in the GOP right now.
Allow me to translate what’s going on this particular youtube where Speaker Ramsey endorses Chip Saltsman for RNC Chair.
Bill Frist wants to be President.
Speaker Ramsey wants to be Governor.
And Chip Saltsman wants to be RNC Chairman.
It’s an orgy with suits on. Word to all from the grassroots in true southern slang: WE AIN’T NO STEPPIN’ STONES!
How about you fight some ideological battles, some battles of principle, desire to accomplish something, heck, anything!! When you do that, people will carry you to a higher office. But this you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours, well, frankly, it’s enough to make you disgusted with the entire lot.
But I’m not walking away. Don Sundquist sucked as a Governor. Cronyism was his game. Selling out principle was his masterpiece. That Ron Ramsey would give a pass to the Sundquist years puts Jason Mumpower’s deal with income tax sponsoring Steve McDaniel to be 2nd in command in the house all into focus now.
Sorry my esteemed brethren in political office, polling shows your big government, tax loving, Dem-lite strategies FAIL!
And I’ll be working to drive a stake in the heart of your self-promoting ways.
A.C. Kleinheider has the info on Saltsman throwing Huckabee under the bus.
And YEAH BABY!! Here’s Davy Jones singing my theme song for the crew, especially Frist for Governor!

From Sundquist’s chauffeur to Chairman of the RNC? I don’t think so……..

Saltzy was one of the jackballs helping Don Corleone Sundquist try to push a state income tax down our throats. Screw him and the horse he rode in on. It’s the same bunch of GOP power-mongers who would sell out their own grandmothers for another Cuban cigar.

Hi Terry, no big deal, but just wanted to clarify that Micky Dolenz is the one who sang “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone”, not Davy… tho Davy is indeed in the background vocals.

(PS Just a little trivia & FYI, Paul Revere & the Raiders also do a much better version – and it’s a little known fact that it was the original and released before The Monkees recorded their single…)

I kept waiting for Sen. Ramsey to say “RNC chairman..GEORGE W. SALTSMAN!”

Terry -
OK, but who do you want as the RNC Chair? Certainly the same arguments regarding the “stepping stone” apply to Steele, right?
Cheers,
Rob

Rob–HOw about you, Rob? You would be better.
The facts are, Frist never wanted to be Governor until he wanted to be President. The only reason he’s standing beside Chip is because he wants a contact there.
Give me something they want to accomplish, can you?
I’m not for Steele by the way. I’d like to see Fred Thompson or Newt or someone with a mind for history and understands that it is principle that attracts—not pom poms for the Big R.

Maybe it’s just me or maybe the GOP is getting dumber. At a time in history where a candidate that has so little substance that he actually creates a bit of a vacuum when he speaks, can get elected on just pure excitement, the GOP picks candidates time and time again that not only let the voters stay home in droves but actually make us NOT want to vote.
I think that the symbol for the GOP is no longer the Elephant but the Mammoth and we all know what happened to those. The GOP only has to worry how history will look at them in my opinion, they surely aren’t trying to bring about change for the better. And working for pure and personal power will not look very good in the half page that will be devoted to them in the high school history books.
Sorry if this doesn’t make sense, but I’m disgusted, angry and on a typing rampage.

Come on, BCB. You don’t have to apologize here. I love typing rampages!

I’m disgusted but getting used to it. Saltsman is nothing to get excited about, just another nail in the coffin.

So what qualifies Chip to become RNC?
Former state GOP chairman that couldn’t get a majority.
Sundquist admin disaster.
Bill “wimpy majority leader” Frist. You remember Bill, the candidate that never voted prior to his running.
Throwing Huckabee under the bus.
You can bet Chip will try to use Robin Smith’s hard work at the TN GOP to his political credit.
Unless and until the GOP begins standing in unison against issues like trillions in bailouts and loans from father fed then barking at the Dems will be more like howling at the moon.

I would be happy if the TN GOP would stand up for something other what the Dems want. How much dissent was raised when the Gov wanted his “Party Bunker” or the new software that cost 6 mill and is COSTING state employees money? These are just a couple of things that spring to mind when I look at party power and party unity and party direction. These two budget items would have paid how many state employees? But instead, the manpower of the THP has been cut. The open positions that needed to be filled by new Troopers have been eliminated. They make similar threats at the TBI and THP if their budgets aren’t cut, they will lose current employees.
Keeping that in mind, what has party power done for our state? They have no real power and still are afraid to act like they do on the state level as they were on the national level. Party unity? I guess that’s tied to party direction and the GOP has absolutely no direction but the direction of each individual self serving politician. Without direction, unity or message is it any wonder that the GOP is destined to lose more power and influence to get what we, the people, want? Enter a few in TN that actually had some direction and message and we can see why the GOP made progress in the legislature. Look at Sarah Palin and we can easily understand the “hows and whys” of her populatiry. Message. Direction. Goals. Substance. Let’s look back to TN. And after seeing that the GOP can make GAINS with a strong stance, we have many who want to undermine the party to maintain personal power and privilege. I’ve kicked people out of parties before, if they want me to come down to Nashville, I can come and kick them out of the GOP too. Let’s let one or two twist in the wind and I’m sure that the rest will, at least, not impede traffic anymore.
Until a backbone is found for the GOP, we will never have what we want and therefore not give much money nor a tinkers damn.

Huckster, Lamar, Corker….. CMON. These people have killed out party. We took over TN after he left his clouded trail of junk of RINO’s. Here we go take the lead in the GOP and piss it down the drain. This is the same mold we have seen for the past 8 years.
Reminder of what “conservative” means to him
Huckabee backs up his claim to be a “paradoxical Republican.” While he is decidedly not a fiscal conservative and makes statements to distance himself from conservatives in his party, his national campaign manager John “Chip” Saltsman wrote to the American Spectator insisting that, “Without doubt, Mike Huckabee is a fiscal conservative who cut taxes almost 100 times in the state of Arkansas and returned almost $400 million to Arkansas taxpayers, including the first broad-based tax cut in the history of the state.” He goes on to say that, “A fair appraisal of Governor Huckabee’s record reveals that he is an authentic, consistent conservative whose goal is to reduce both taxes and spending when he is President.”

Too little fact and too much conjecture here.
The battle is about winning elections based on the will of the people. Chip Saltsman knows this better than most. For RNC Chair, he’s the perfect guy.
So sorry y’all sound so bitter. Being positive goes a long way. No wonder so many have a negative stereotype of the ueberRepublicans, it’s not working. An uplifting positive message of better times through conservative principles applied by democratically elected officials will win elections and allow traditional values to carry the day.
I’m for Chip for RNC Chair!
By Dennis Berwyn on 12.10.08 11:12 pm
Too much conjecture? Well, there you go. I’ll have to walk us all down memory lane with Chip.
Stay tuned…

Dennis, waving Bill Frist is like waving a red cape in front of actual conservatives.

Where is George Bailey?
