The $7 billion dollar plan involved — get this — taking life insurance out on some state retirees without their knowledge and cashing in when they died.

Donating life insurance policies is an old, and legit, form of institutional donations. But doing it without permission is obviously a different ball game.

I am curious who these policies are with, what kind they are and most of all, did they provide ANY medical info on these employees without proper adherence to HIPA? I would also like to know how cost effective that little plan is? Life insurance on those that are of the age of retirement can be rather costly, especially without medical info. Or is the state just “self insuring” and writing it’s own policy so that money is just “moved”? This whole thing smacks of shady, smoke-filled, backroom dealing with individuals of ill-repute. Oh yeah, Bredesen is involved. Sorry to be redundant.
