The Judicial Club: Looking Out for Each Other or for Tennessee Justice?
Back in September of 2009, I received a copy of this letter from the Egli family. I have posted it here with their permission.
Full picture/pdf is at the link below:
So what do you think? Is this a system that is working? These folks get a letter that essentially says, “Trust us, we didn’t ignore you, we took appropriate action.” Appropriate action? Define appropriate!
This guarantee reminds me of Dean Wormer and his double secret probation.
Dean Wormer: listen here.
This letter goes right along with a recent report released by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research that you can read here. To boil it down, we’ve got a system in Tennessee that seems to operate much along the same lines as some of our school policies for abusive teachers. Got a teacher who has inappropriate contact with a student? Pass that teacher along to a new system. Nobody has to know, right? It’s even got a name that was discussed in a 2007 AP piece: passing the trash.
Got a judge operating over the line? Well, heck, if he’ll/she’ll step down, he/she can go on stepping over the line somewhere else, right? Or maybe head an agency? Or maybe with a warning, he/she will go right on abusing until someone else with the guts or know-how files and attempts to pursue the problem.
I encourage you to read TCPR’s piece at their Watchdog site. And contact your legislators about this. They need to address the problems of judicial accountability. The rule of law requires nothing less than our diligence.

But it’s that way with ALL the “professionals”. I know of a surgeon that was arrested on crack charges and then supposedly “self-reported” to some doctor board. He was allowed to return to work and even the courts couldn’t get what he magically did to come back to work cutting people through his drug induced haze.
You can check on some, but not the elite. Equal protection my aunt sally.

Clint Brewer did a great job. I hope that the legislature will put a stop to the criminal corruption that is going on in the judicial system especially in family court.Judges get away with murder . Once in a while a judge will be reprimanded for being late but the real bad judges are covered by predatory lawyers who used their power to cover the corruption.
May Beaver , Mike Turner are running the show and are ready to expose the truth.
Since the testimony of abused women in 2007 and 2008 … Mike Turner was the one who really went out of his way to help the victims.
The unconstitutional law of secrecy must go . All complaints against judges and lawyers should be public records . When a judge has to answer a panel. the hearing should be public and the defendant should have the right to be present at the hearing.
All past complaints should be reopened and judges should be debenched.

I agree with Rosine. This investigation is long overdue; Clint Brewer did an excellent job but it doesn’t need to stop here. The TBPR, Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility, is just as secretive as the TCOJ and there needs to be an extensive investigation covering the TBPR; corrupt Tennessee licensed attorneys need to be dealt with. For that matter, the Tennessee licensed court reporters need investigating as well. I plan on contacting East Tennessee lawmakers with the exception of Burchett and Woodson and letting them know how I feel about judicial accountability. In 2005, these two senators were provided with the history on the known complaints filed with the TCOJ against bill swann dating back to 1993. In addition, there were many people speaking out during the 2006 race for Fourth Circuit; no doubt one of the nastiest races in the history of this state. The senators did NOTHING to protect the public from him. On my behalf, they wrote the state Attorney General and requested an opinion/investigation but that was it. The state attorney general claimed they had no jurisdiction so the senators “let it go” as opposed to contacting the Justice Department. I needed an audio tape to easily prove my allegations against swann and they did NOT proceed in helping me to obtain this crucial audio tape. swann is a family law “judge” who has been divorced some four times with his personal case files sealed and has been found in contempt of court for refusing to pay his own court ordered child support (below). I cringe to think of all the innocent children’s lives swann has destroyed.

In August 2008, the Justice Department opened an investigation after receiving complaints from County Commissioners alleging discrimination and misconduct in the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County. Judicial advocates from Middle and West Tennessee gave testimonies before the Legislature in 2007 and 2008 and there was no one from East Tennessee. This is outrageous and for the most part I blame Woodson and Burchett for remaining silent thus putting their rubber stamp approval on the judicial corruption here in Knox County. Let’s not forget it was Jamie Woodson who was the number one advocate to keep the unconstitutional Tennessee Plan alive and she is also a former member of the Senate Judiciary Committee as well. In my opinion, Woodson and Burchett are in politics for themselves; look at their records they have been misrepresenting the people every session. Woodson and Burchett have shown no mercy for the children and the public needs to repay them by showing them no mercy come election time. East Tennessee could use someone like Beavers or Turner as opposed to the deadbeats Woodson and Burchett. Below is a quote pertaining to state lawmakers from one of today’s articles in the Tennessean. This quote is perfect for Woodson and Burchett:
“Imagine a world where informed decisions would be made, based purely on a motivation to improve the lives of folks who call Tennessee home. Not based on the chances of winning re-election or personal profiteering.”
