Trimming Back the Fat

Our Tennessee Congressional delegation was given the opportunity to take a stand against PORK in Washington. One of my favorite groups, the Club for Growth, has the info on how it works:

Thanks to Congressman Jeff Flake’s 19 anti-pork amendments, we now have every House member on record regarding their positions on earmarks. Before now, House members have been able to avoid scrutiny because their pork was co-mingled with other projects and tucked into the dark corners of big spending bills. Or they were able to withstand the scrutiny because they were attacked as a whole chamber and not directly attacked themselves.

But because of Flake’s amendments, they were recently forced to cast up-or-down votes on specific projects. They could no longer deflect attention.

So how did our Tennessee delegation rank on Pork Busting? Well, you might be surprised to see that Congressman Gordon (D) and Congressman Zach Wamp(R) have the worst scores.

It’s understandable for Gordon, but what about Republican Zach Wamp, the Congressman who broke his pledge about term limiting himself? Please keep in mind Congressman Wamp’s love of pork when he’s out on the campaign trail campaigning for Bob Corker for U.S. Senate.

Congressman Ford meanwhile, scores a 68% compared to Congressman Zach Wamp’s 0%. I think it’s about time for a primary opponent for Mr. Wamp.
Want all the scores?

Here they are. And hats off to Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R) and Congressman Cooper(D). Outstanding!

R Blackburn (TN-7) 19 of 19 100%
D Cooper (TN-5) 19 of 19 100%
D Ford (TN-9) 13 of 19 68%
R Duncan (TN-2) 14 of 19 74%
D Tanner (TN-8) 4 of 19 21%
D Davis, L. (TN-4) 1 of 19 5%
D Gordon (TN-6) 0 of 19 0%
R Wamp (TN-3) 0 of 19 0%
R Jenkins (TN-1) 4 of 19 21%
You can click on the Club for Growth here if you would like to pull up the amendments, such as “Swimming pool in Banning, CA ($500,000).”

I cannot believe that Zach Wamp goes on and on how he cannot impose term limits on himself, as promised, because he must prevent “frivolous legislation”. Yet, he votes, time and again, for pork legislation. He must think that we, the people of East Tennessee, are absolute dolts! And when I see the polls, heaven forbid, he might be right!

Marsha Blackburn might be voting like a conservative, but she has sent large sums of money back to her district for roads and the like which are not the responsibility of the Nation, but of the state and the individual counties. And when you write her to ask why, you get no response, as if ignoring you makes everything alright.
I am fed up with this centralization of congressionsly imposed taxes; kind of like Marxism, don’t you think?

George….

[...] I mentioned this on George Korda’s show on Sunday and several people have asked me where I got the info.  Here’s the original post, but the link to Club for Growth is now dead.  I’m sure I can email them and see what they can do for a direct contact to them.  Here’s the link to my original from 7/26/2010.
