Did Haslam Wake the NRA? Yep, it looks like it…

Veteran blogger Say Uncle gets wind that the NRA may be getting ready to address Mayor Haslam’s alliance with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Will Mayor Bill Haslam hear something like these words spoken by Wayne LaPierre to another Mayor back in May?

I had not planned to mention this, but Mayor Tom Barrett’s behavior since we came to town makes me think he spent too much time hanging out with New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg a couple of weeks ago.

and:

It’s real simple. If you want to get crime off your streets, get criminals off your streets! Mayor Bloomberg, it’s not rocket science. NRA has supported putting bad guys behind bars for decades – and it works. Mayor Bloomberg, talk gets headlines. But prosecuting criminals gets results. And the people want results! I’ll make you a deal, Mike Bloomberg. Here’s what you do. Walk down to Town Hall and tell your prosecuting attorneys that from now on, no plea bargains, no reduced charges, no dropped cases. A drug dealer caught with a gun goes to jail. A violent felon caught with a gun goes to jail. Discharge a gun in commission of a felony, go to jail. Smuggle a gun, go to jail. If you do that, if you stop talking and start acting, your violent crime rate will drop 30-40-50% in one year.

Or will it be something like this:

The bottom line is this: There are two ways a mayor can go now in the United States of America concerning the freedom of law-abiding gun owners. Mayors can band with Bloomberg and sign on to a pledge to support more gun-ban schemes in the future, or they can sign NRA’s no-confiscation pledge, promising to never give the order to physically disarm law-abiding citizens under any circumstance.

Here’s the post from Uncle that got it all started.

When Uncle raised the issue, statewide Dynamo Radio Host Steve Gill got the initial interview with Mayor Haslam that can be heard here.

UPDATE: Uncle sends the word from the folks at the NRA.  Here’s the NRA advice:

Here’s a suggestion for Mayor Haslam and the citizens of Knoxville.

Ask Mike Bloomberg to take your name off his website and list.  Tell Bloomberg that you don’t want New York City style gun control laws in Tennessee!

[...] In other news, Wayne LaPierre read SayUncle? Cool. Terry Frank asks: Did Haslam wake the NRA? I hope so. Since the local press isn’t covering the issue, perhaps the NRA will get word out to its local members. [...]

Haslam is the only Mayor in Knox County that had not shot himself in the foot. Then he steps into this? Is there something in the water?
